That’s actually a bit of a real issue for us. If you have a poor area, showing that there are a lot of liberal progressives, socialists, young people, cultural spaces, etc. attracts students, the hipster kind of petty bourgeois, rich libs who want to move there, so rent prices go up. If it’s a neighborhood where people look at you wrong if you speak a different language or are of a different ethnicity, odds are that the youth and immigrants want to flee. Rents stay low.

And because most don’t believe anything can ever be done about landlords, it’s a factor that drives workers into the far-right and encourages nationalism, liberal or reactionary.
