Everyone’s going to be using millennials as a punching bag forever aren’t they? People are never going to leave us alone and let us rot in peace, are they? What the fuck did we do aside from be depressed and poor?

I know my grown ass shouldn’t care about this kind of thing, but I just hate being lumped into this caricature that was wrong even when boomers invented it like 20 years ago.

The “gen alpha bad” stuff is cringe too. Let the kids 67 in peace.

just crappy generational war they perfected to keep us divided. zoomers will suffer a similar fate when the next batch of young people comes of age and so on.

Hard agree. Just a slightly more popular and unquestioned way of dividing the working class. The amount of generational bullshit I’ve heard in the past few years from people around me is annoying. Although weirdly I haven’t heard nearly as much of late, so maybe the general public is starting to get over it. Just don’t tell that to anyone on social media.

Adam Conover stretched one decent point over a 20 minute video, which is that people have always talked about time but switched from “it’s the 90s! Boy the 80s sure were dorky” which frames time as a collective experience, to more in-group out-group generational labels for the simple reason that “it’s the aughts” or “it’s the 2010s” is awkward to say.

Ill be real with you all, other than the “ok boomer” stuff in like 2020 when I first got exposed to that, I legitimately have zero understanding of, nor any desire to understand, any of this generational war stuff that’s been going on. Maybe Im better off just remaining ignorant

Before that we had millennials hating their own generation and other millennials hating millennials for hating their own generation. “Le wrong generation”

Then we had media proclaiming that millennials are killing _ and are buying lattes and avocado toast instead of houses. They have since moved on to zoomers. These articles where often write at the economist or similar, so probably a conscious to stifle class consciousness.

Ok boomer sort of is an artifact of the Bernie campaign.

I saw younger gens claiming that millennials are as bad as boomers and there was a decent amount of agreement and replies echoing it. That was a wild take.

I don’t like fuelling inter-gen conflict but, my god, a lot of boomers would be one notch below literally spitting in your face for being openly queer or in a mixed race relationship or something like that.

Idk about anyone else but I’ve never heard a millennial say “Oh what cute kids! It’s a shame their daddy happens to be black.” and I’ve never seen a millennial’s smile literally melt right off their face when you correct them by telling them that you have a girlfriend, not a boyfriend. I’ve never encountered a millennial who votes to kick away the ladder with stuff like access to foodstamps and, upon being challenged with “But you literally raised me for half my childhood on foodstamps”, they respond with “Yeah but it’s too expensive these days and I saw a very real post on Facebook about how someone bought Mercedes by scamming SNAP and I refuse to entertain any points about how this is a falsehood.”

Millennials have all sorts of problems, don’t get me wrong, but damn.

Generational warfare is stupid but also terribly entertaining I’m afraid. Millennials being ganged by both older and younger generations nasty as hell. The worst part is that I totally understand how millennial culture looks lame to zoomers because we perfected the toxic art of not caring about anything (caring is lame amarite)

Edit: Ambiguous wording, when I said “we” I was talking about zoomers perfecting the art of not caring

Zoomers can be cool! I liked when they used to make surreal memes about gnarp and maxwell. I think the negativity is a result of just how fucked everything is right now rather than fault of any single generation.

We have lots of cool zoomer comrades here too.

Just want to make it clear to people that I wasn’t trying to make a “zoomer bad” post.

I used to make fun of the boomers; in retrospect, a bit too much Now all these fucking zoomers are telling me that I’m out of touch? Oh yeah? Well, your fucking phones are poisoning your minds. Okay? So when you develop a dissociative mental disorder in your late twenties, don’t come crawling back to me

I dunno, I think the anti-boomer stuff came only after boomers aggressively shitting on young people for a decade and them actively engaging policy war against young people.

Even then, making fun of boomers always left a bad taste in my mouth. I guess that’s where the “boomer is a state of mind not an age” thing came from.
