He wants to experiment on Americans by seeing what happens as vaccination coverage plummets and infectious diseases spread.

“What we’re going to have is a real-world experience of when unvaccinated people get measles. What is the new incidence of hospitalization? What’s the incidence of death?”

I edited it a bit for clarity.

While it’s normally a lifetime immunization, there are polio boosters for people who are expected to be in locations with outbreaks (Pakistan, Afghanistan); maybe Americans should consider getting one while it’s still available sheesh.

Its lifetime if you are expecting to live in the context of 100% community vaccination.

Some have started suggesting when you get the 10yearly tetanus booster, get the one that also has polio in it. You can try asking for that. If there is hesitation, tell them you plan to travel to Pakistan so you need it.

This is good advice! I just got my Tdap + polio booster a couple weeks ago. Where I am (not the US) it’s standard practice to do a polio update with the Tdap (tetanus, diptheria and pertussis). I know vaccines have weird availability and coverage rules in the US, but it is definitely worth looking into.
