The Karma was your reddit score a way to rank your seniority and value. It made it a bit easier to see where someone stood in a specific community.A post from a throwaway account was more suspect than one with lots of karma.
Point farming will be a thing, people crave attention and you can get that validation . Without that overall score I think it will be less pronounced on lemmy.

I just went to check what my karma was. On my first main account I had 30k karma after 10 years. The account I was using when I left was 8 years old and only had 3k karma. I definitely didn’t have any seniority or value! 😂
