  • When it comes to protesting like this I don’t really give a shit if someone paints over parts of a building. But the books themselves? That’s just fucked up. I understand they are trying to get people pissed over this but this is entirely the wrong way to do it. All this will do is make everyone pissed off at you instead. I’d say a good rule of thumb for protest graffiti is whether or not it can still be used after it’s been covered in paint. Graffiti on a wall doesn’t make the wall unusable. But if someone put graffiti on the windshield of my car I’d be so pissed off I wouldn’t give two shits about the message.

  • We’re all kids. We just have responsibility now so we have to pretend we don’t want to sit around and play with Legos all day. None of us have “figured it out” and the only reason it seemed like adults knew what they were doing when we were kids was because adults were old enough to have fucked everything up at least once.

  • This is a very common thing outside the bubble that is the US. In fact, before COVID it was totally normal to see people wearing masks when they were sick in public places. A little strange to see, but still normal and nobody really cared. People didn’t give two shits back then versus now where they stick out like a sore thumb. Before you’d see someone wearing a mask and think “oh, they might be sick” and move on with your life before you even had a chance to put it into your long term memory. It’s not that it’s weird to wear a mask. It’s that everyone forgot that it used to not be weird at all. The fact that they are getting judged in the first place would seem completely ridiculous 5 years ago.

  • I wear one when I’m sick. Outside of places like the United States it’s actually very common to wear masks when you are sick. There used to not be a stigma about masks even in the US before COVID. This is because masks were never meant to be used as a way to prevent getting sick but as a way to not get others sick, therefore slowing the spread of disease. Somewhere over the past few years the lines got crossed and everyone started calling masks bullshit because they misinterpreted the actual use for them. Doctors don’t wear masks because they don’t want to get sick. They wear them so they don’t get their patients sick.

  • I grew up in the time when all these social media platforms first came out. I was in middle school when Facebook became popular and by the time I was in highschool everyone had a smartphone. This was way before things got as bad as they are now so I know I’m not exactly an expert in this department. But at the same time, social media fucked me up for years. I’d be glued to my phone all day without any breaks. I decided the only social media I was gonna use was Reddit. After I deleted all my accounts and went to just Reddit I thought things were gonna be better. But instead I’d waste hours upon hours just browsing on Reddit.

Now reddit is garbage and these days the only real social media I use is here on the fediverse. This place is still pretty small, but I feel like that’s a good thing. There is just enough content to get my fill for 20 minutes, move on, and then come back in like 4 or 5 hours. Not having social media in my face all the time has honestly made me feel the best mentally that I ever have. Or at least since I was in highschool. These days I can forget my phone in my car when I get home without even realizing it until I’m about to go to bed and need to set an alarm.

I don’t know what the moral of my story is, but I just wanted to share. I definitely think social media should have a warning. Most people will ignore it of course, but it’s a start. It’s just nice being somewhere where you’re not drowning in content, clout seekers, and companies all shoving things down my throat to suck as much attention as physically possible out of me.

I’m just a dude cruising around here browsing “everything” while at work instead of doing my job, so I know I don’t really have a say here. But I just wanted to say something…

First off, I 100% support everyone that is in this community. I’m bisexual myself and I will always support everyone involved. But I just gotta say… This acronym is getting a little long these days. I understand that everyone wants to be represented and I have nothing against that. I’m just saying we only got 19 letters left.

Anyway, this is just the opinion of a bored dude procrastinating at work.

  • I understand completely. My main concern however is not startup companies. I’m all for supporting smaller companies. It’s more like huge corporations where the CEO takes the majority of the money and probably spends more time on vacation than actually doing anything. Even though I’m sure they do more than I am letting on, I don’t think it justifies millions or even billions of dollars in pay and bonuses. If they started the company that’s one thing. However most CEO’s of large corporations are so far removed from the initial founding of the company they basically have less to do with what the company does than the average employee. The amount of money these companies could make if they actually put that money back into it is potentially higher than current profits. It’s really a win-win situation for everyone except for the CEO instead of just a win for the CEO and nobody else.
