  • It’s mostly metadata they store end up storing. So who is talking to whom at what time using what protocol and certain other details. We know from Snowden leaks for instance that they were doing image captures every 6-10 seconds of webcam sessions via things like Yahoo messenger and that they were shocked that so many people used them for sex and issued a warning to employees not to abuse access to those resources. So it’s not storing absolutely everything just key details.

  • Umm. Not good. Seems to me the US is poaching all their people so when they instigate over and lose Taiwan they don’t even have to evac these people or worry about chip production in a decoupling scenario.

I also think it’s interesting that the thing to laugh about this factory 6 months ago was how American workers could never make it work and how it was going to fail. Now that they’re succeeding by importing workers we’re moving the goal posts? Come on, let’s be sober about it. There’s a real problem here and the US stands a real chance of pulling off a tech decoupling from China while maintaining capacity.

  • That’s not how it works. If they come to you with a warrant you can’t just say you’d rather not. You have to turn it over or else your people will be arrested and your company if located in a state amenable to such orders raided. It all sounds good and fine until one of these people empty-mindedly takes a vacation to the US and an under seal warrant is opened and they are arrested and jailed until the company complies at which point they’ll buckle.

The only solution as with VPN providers and copyright infringement is for them to have no data to turn over so when asked they can tell the truth and say there’s nothing they can do to help because they have no relevant information.

Otherwise you’re just one very long arm of US law or a hack by activist reactionaries away from all this data being available to anti-choice authorities. The only solution is keeping it all local and this company should be tarred and feathered for this pathetic pinkwashing of unnecessary and invasive data practices.

  • And what’s funny is, they have this whole meme over there from Matt Christmen about treats. About western imperial core liberals being concerned about access to treats and it’s not untrue. But then they take this view of women that’s essentially treat-based.

That is access to pornography is a treat for their largely while male base, access to prostitutes are a treat for their aforementioned base. So they seek out thinking on this, bad liberal feminism and choose that over Marxist feminism because it allows them to enjoy their sexual exploitation treats without feeling bad or needing to change or do self reflection. And it also allows some of those exploited to deceive and delude themselves into thinking they’re not exploited which is also a compelling thing as who likes feeling like that? The common refrain of the exploited worker at the bottom is they’re just working their way up, they have an angle they’re going for, a side-hustle, they’ll be out of here soon and it’s a cope there and a cope from some of the apologists who’ve been involved in it here. Much as women lie to themselves about being sexually assaulted to avoid confronting the uncomfortable reality, there are those who lie about this form of sexual exploitation.

  • with the bonus third whammy being that under this context of push coming to.shove, China would reintegrate Taiwan seizing control of basically the entire global chain of production

Which is why the US has forced Taiwanese companies to reshore in the US and elsewhere to their detriment. So that in say 2-3 years those fabs (and others in say the zionist colony) will be close enough to meeting the needs of the US and parts of western Europe that they can pull the trigger on Taiwan independence and bomb the foundries from the deep ocean leaving China nothing but rubble and some indoctrinated compatriots of theirs who will fight them and cause Europe to do a decoupling in the name of “the garden” and “standing with democracy” as well as creating a propaganda groundswell of anti-China fervor much like the anti-Russian fervor we see now over Ukraine but probably more sustained given how much more nurtured anti-Sino hate is.

It won’t do what they hope to Chinese chips but I think this option of the CPC taking the Taiwanese foundries intact is not necessarily one I’d bet on. The west will do their utmost to kidnap/evacuate (maybe even kill those who this isn’t an option for) the top chip engineers and scientists and leave nothing but rubble. I’d bet there’s a good chance they have paid off people or NSA sabotage equipment in those foundries that on a remote command will wipe everything in terms of useful technical data, schematics, etc.

They just have this hope that if they can force Europe to decouple (and given Ukraine and Nordstream it seems European leadership are more than willing to throw themselves on the US sword on command) and that that plus their own embargoes and sanctions and possession of the technical knowledge and being ahead will allow them to strangle China enough to keep it behind a few generations until they can do something else.

People mention competition. The point of things like “clean networks” initiative is IMO to eventually expand that. If you hold the high-ground, have the better technology you can threaten companies and whole countries with an ultimatum of either commit not to use any Chinese tech that’s sanctioned (everything towards the high end will be) or don’t and get sanctioned yourself in a way with an inability to use or purchase more advanced western technology. So basically choose. Either us with the better stuff or them with worse and use that and other forms of leverage to stymie markets for Chinese technology products and smother their whole industry or at least exclude it from the west and whatever other countries they can use their economic hold on to force through the same.

It’s also very likely if they can instigate a conflict over Taiwan that they will declare all Chinese chips as being produced by and supporting aggression and repression and all the usual liberal buzzwords and sanction their export, purchase, etc. Which if the US still has dollar hegemony it will wield to prevent third party countries from transporting them, selling them, etc or suffering secondary sanctions which will succeed in getting a large number of companies and countries to move to western chips out of fear. And this will be their way of coercing say Latin/South America and parts of Asia that unlike Europe won’t go along with the whole economic suicide plan.

The end of this may end up being a two camps situation ala the cold war again but with the US in retreat, pulling back with its loyal vassals and accomplices in Europe, Japan, occupied Korea, Australia, etc and trying to maintain that closed off system as long as they can in the face of BRICS. Things will get pretty awful for those behind this US sanctions curtain as prices will increase, product quality will drop, wages will remain stagnant and various other bad reactionary things will take hold.

They are desperately scrambling up a mountain on their hands and knees trying to get high enough and far away enough from China that they can build a fortress there and use it as leverage to maintain hegemony.

  • We’re not doing a split over it because as the admins have said we don’t defederate except from porn and open fascist instances.

Now could Hexbear throw a shit-fit and defederate from us? That I could see happening easily. There are numerous drama loving types there and there was that one big thread accusing us baselessly of bigotry because someone got moderated and took it personally to the point of stirring up trouble and calling names as well as for defederation.

I mean just looking at the comically ridiculous struggle sessions hexbears start among themselves it’s almost amazing it hasn’t happened already.

Warning, minor criticism incoming: There are far too many there that are given far too much ear from their admins in ways that further pointless and counterproductive in-fighting over nothings that exemplifies the do-nothing, always bickering western left. It’s my second favorite instance after this one I want to be clear, I like a lot of the people there and I’m glad it exists but I do have my problems with it. People accuse MLs of being authoritarian (and so we are) and yet it’s not us but the left unity instance that is constantly having people appeal to the authorities in the hierarchy (ironic) to settle this or that little tiff or disagreement and to impose sweeping changes on others and communities and so on as a result of someone calling to the admins with a convincing sob sorry or whatever. I mean look at the current struggle they have going on over their changes to their shitliberalssay type communities. Just a total disconnect from the masses of their site including long-time users who love that stuff. It’s kind of funny to me but also kind of sad. As the old saying goes, it’s a land of contrasts that Hexbear.

  • Very strange move. As someone else noted, they claim they don’t want data of their people in Chinese hands yet if it’s to still operate for Canadian users it would have to do so from outside their shores and entirely out of their legal jurisdiction, possibly from China.

I have to wonder if it’s a ban in all but name, that is they expect them to shut down the app for Canadians but want to say “look we didn’t prevent them from keeping the app running, we just shut down their division here, don’t blame us, blame them” as to kind of evade responsibility for it.

Otherwise I have to wonder if they think that preventing say ad revenue will get them to close up shop on their own or something. It’s just bizarre.

  • IMO that movement has many of the hallmarks of being a propped up US/western destabilization and balkanization operation much like their support for that terrorist movement in Xinjiang in China. Their support is lower key perhaps because they want to maintain good relations against India to use it against China but it’s still there.

I’m glad Kamala lost but upset that Claudia didn’t win.

Instead it’s this orange guy who occasionally says something funny.

But at least I get to drink liberal genocide apologist tears, everyone be sure to drink plenty of genocide apologist tears and scold them for supporting a genocidal party and candidate that moved right and try to teach them something for once.

I really, really, really hope she wins every remaining state but Michigan and the Dems get to know for a fact that she probably lost over supporting a genocide but I think that may be overly optimistic as it looks like her path to victory is closed off in AZ and NV. I mean fuck with our luck she’ll somehow win Michigan anyways and the message Dems will take is genocide is okay but PUTIN personally (with the help of re-animated Stalin) stole the election with Russian brainwashing and troll farms.

Ah well. This bodes badly for the US I think.

Also be sure to be there for the mental health of those vulnerable friends of yours who maybe are a bit liberal and take this hard, good opportunity after comforting them to maybe lead them out of the blue-anon propaganda.

  • but I’m letting my emotions run heavy.

Which is exactly the problem with this post on this day and my entire point. Thanks for making it for me again.

It doesn’t matter the scale. What matters is the problem it causes. If they dissuade 10,000 people and swing a state for Kamala is it a problem then? When is it a problem? The fact is we’re not going to win. But the fact is the point isn’t to win but to do enough damage to the major parties that people take notice and look into it. PSL volunteers sweated hard getting signatures to get on the ballot in so many states and you’re just saying their effort was wasted. That it doesn’t matter. That it’s okay to throw it away. Anyways to my point, any suppression of support, especially on a platform like this on a day like today is not okay. It attacks the work of those people.

Also PSL is nowhere near the issues of CPUSA. One that regularly tails Democrats and embraces lesser evilism. On a theoretical basis CPUSA is not even in the running to be a vanguard or a party people can look to given its national leadership. I don’t care for arguments about oh local branches this or that, I’ve seen the same thing with DSA and the fact is national has too much power for that to ever really matter.

  • Actually you’re right, my apologies.

Any acknowledgement of fucking rape is actually just a cynical ploy to make a party that was never going to win the election lose the election.

Quoting here because this person admits they delete most of their comments after a week and I want context for my replies.

Calm the fuck down. Stop acting foolish.

There is a time and place for all things. Any other day, any day outside of today and maybe yesterday. Most of the year is an appropriate time. This day of all days is not okay. Cry about it because for one lousy day or two I think it’s inappropriate to air this stuff given it doesn’t even personally involve violations by the candidates and is just hurting them by association.

I don’t think that’s extreme. Given these are not new accusations, dredging them up at this moment is clearly sabotage meant to harm the votes they get and enthusiasm for the party and the larger movement. Again, it’s fine to discuss these at a reasonable time and place. Unlike the Democrats whose reasonable time and place for dissension from their party is a few weeks every 2 years between midterms the time for this IMO is just about every day except election day and the days immediately before it. There have been months of time to bring this up during which I wouldn’t bring these accusations, if they made these 24 hours later I also wouldn’t care. But they didn’t do that. They deployed them strategically at the worst possible moment. And when they’ve had all this time, months and months and years to discuss this given it wasn’t a surprise Cruz is who we’re voting for and she’s PSL the fact they waited until now is not right.
