He’s so correct about the rarity system particularly lands, a basic feature like dual-color lands has evolved into this kind of chase collector item worth hundreds of dollars. Eliminating mana screw and making mono color mechanics more distinctive and powerful would probably be my immediate focus if I could get people offline involved in weird custom cube drafts. Xmage has some pretty creative people, and you can actually play with the custom cards, I wonder what Garfield thinks about it or if he knows about proxying.

I mean the visual novel part combined with that sounds liek a fun enough intersection of game mechanics to add depth

Dark souls doesn’t require any spreadsheeting if you know the core mechanics you can beat it with a shit build sorry to be annoying but comparing everything to a fighting game with rpg mechanics that gradually change weapon damage by like 4% to get over the threshold from 3 to 4 hit kill or some combo of specials and regulars thereof kinda irks me

Personally when I fuck around with the real world map, I get a city and pick which part has the Cthulhu cultists and then I have people roll dice

what is the appeal of map games? like what mechanics are people enjoying? is it wanting your build to succeed?

I played it way too much and came to several conclusions

1.) it’s corny

2.) the writers don’t believe in anything

3.) the weird twitter references are not going to age well, neither will the weird pastiche of communism in the game

still a groundbreaking RPG and I hunted down all the quests because it was fun. thin on mechanics though. could have used a puzzle here and there but I get it’s surprising it even exists at all
