https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimrod_Aloni

Here is his Wikipedia article.

Aloni has been behind many of the war crimes and air strikes in Gaza and the Gaza Strip, and he is also a head advisor to the IDF for military incursions into Palestinian territory.

Aloni was also the architect and general behind Israel’s 2021 “Operation: Guardian of the Walls”, which killed and wounded an estimated 4,000-5,000 Palestinians, and displaced 72,000+ Palestinian civilians.

The Depth Corps is a unit specialising in operations against Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. They were behind many of the Mosque bombings, forced evictions, air strikes, and terror attacks on Palestinian civilians over the past two decades. The unit is currently in shambles and is being reformed behind the lines.

I know this keeps getting brought up in every one of these posts, but Nimrod is actually a Biblical/Torah name of a king listed as a “mighty hunter” in Genesis. It coming to mean dumb or a moron is due to a Looney Tunes cartoon where Bugs Bunny calls Elmer Fudd Nimrod sarcastically. The intent of the comedy was that Elmer was a terrible hunter being mocked by the contrast, but since most people don’t know niche Biblical characters, they just assumed it was one of Bugs Bunny’s stock jokes calling Elmer stupid.

Just a fun fact and explanation as to why you will find Jews named Nimrod.

I’m not sure of the biblical/torah version of Nimrod, but in Islam he was the enemy of prophet Abraham and died by a bug entering his skull

Yeah that is interesting. He isn’t mentioned that much in the Bible/Torah, mostly in passing. And the English translation I read says “a mighty hunter before the LORD”. Which I took as he was a follower of God. But apparently in the original Hebrew, it can be interpreted as an antagonism to God (attempting to hunt the LORD?). So there is Jewish traditions not in the Torah that are similar to the Islamic one, including opposing Abraham. Additionally, he is listed as founding many cities including Nineveh and Babel. So he is associated with the Assyrians and often assumed that he was the king that ordered the construction of the tower of Babel.

But the Christian traditions I know of just read it as, “He was the grandson of Noah and a good hunter” since the other details are vague or not present in the Bible/Torah.

Very impressive and interesting development and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was an objective of the incursion. It’s not impossible that he was sleeping at the barracks (I think they got him from the barracks) on that day but on a Saturday?

Now comes the question of how they can get the most out of him. He is obviously extremely high value as a hostage but they might decide to execute him if we consider that releasing him will just let him keep his crimes against Gaza going.

Yes adventurism and all that but I don’t think you can replace a general that easily, especially one that was so embedded against Gaza.

His attire is pretty standard military sleepwear, and especially due to his lack of shoes I don’t think they stripped him down, but legitimately caught him sleeping.

Also barracks are only for enlisted soldiers and low ranking officers. A flag officer like a Major General would have special and designated housing on-base in the form of a house, or suite, making finding him extremely easy.

They will also not give him up without some major concessions. Hamas will probably use him as a human shield and bargaining chip to help prevent retaliation against civilians. Then they can exchange him at a later date.

Worst case scenario, his execution would be an insane propaganda victory.

Even more so in that this is the specific general in charge of bombing the Gaza Strip and launching raids/terror attacks.

Further he’s one of the heads of the central command. It would be like capturing an American Chief of Staff officer.
