I 🏴☠️’d BG3 and finally started playing it after the hype wave died. It’s a great game to play while I do light cardio on the treadmill. I might pay for it to support the devs.
I haven’t found a game in the vague (and calm down nerds, preemptively) Star Wars KOTOR or even Mass Effect range of quality in forever. Those were games from my high school days and early 20s that I could play solo for a month. I’m sure others exist since those days, but this game surprised me with that old school feeling.
I tried playing BG games back in the day. I think Neverwinter Nights circa 2008(?) was a BG universe game? Could be wrong. This has been the first to actually grab me and keep me playing though.
Ended up buying the game after diligently pirating up to patch 3. Too many fixes and upgrades, eventually it was worth my money to save the time lol.

Correct, the NWN games were also set in the forgotten realms, as were the old Icewind Dale games, but none of the stories were related, and all of those entries really show their age.
They definitely do show their age, but BG2 and NWN2 both still absolutely slap.
The party switch out thing is way overdue so happy so see that in there
Lol, that is such a minor but persistent pain-in-the-ass, unfortunately I just finished my good playthough and am going to do a second extremely evil playthough where I only have 3 party members anyways
