As far as I’m concerned, your days off are your days off. I don’t care if you’re in bed with bubonic plague, or you just really fucking hate Daisy and need a break from her stupid comments. Don’t even bother telling me why you need today off, just say “hey I won’t be in today” and I’ll say cool see you when I see you, and hang up.

Who the fuck cares what someone is doing when they call off. And why the fuck do they care.

I can kinda see some jobs, teaching included, needing to be a bit more restrictive on when you can take off, in that you may need more lead time to make it work right. Like, my old job, I was taking care of patients; a call in with no reasonable lead time could leave a patient uncovered, which is potentially a very bad situation.

Teachers, nowhere near as sensitive as patient care for sure, but the more warning there is, the less it impacts the education process. And it does fuck things up.

I understand that my position is completely insane…but what if we just gave people their time off when they wanted it without having to give a stupid explanation?

The guy I work for is amazing about this. Even if I don’t have the PTO he’ll let me do lwop any time I need. I can put my hours in whenever as well so long as I am available when needed. Oh and I’m 100% wfh.

Apparently Ohio laws for teacher days off are written as “sick days” so her taking personal time broke the rules. But their consequence is ridiculous and shows that it’s not about the time off but about control and power.

She’s been suspended and facing termination. So that means her students will get a sub for the rest of the year. Also, why should I have to explain my whereabouts if I took the days off and there’s a sub in the class?
