The recent study where they intentional infected a bunch of paid volunteers and tracked what happened over the next year is really concerning. All of them have lasting brain damage and none of them can tell this occurred. The Long Covid studies are struggling to find healthy controls because there are a lot of people now walking around with the metabolic and vascular problems that are found in Long Covid but appear asymptomatic. This virus is doing a lot of damage and everyone is one infection away from their life being destroyed by Long Covid.
The studying I am referring to https://www.thelancet.com/journals/eclinm/article/PIIS2589-5370(24)00421-8/fulltext
Bare in mind itās one in 400k such studies showing the damage of Covid itās no outlier itās just really dumb.
A study where subjects were intentionally infected? Please tell me you have a link to that study
What a terrible thing to volunteer for.
Echoing the other comment, Iād also like a link to the study if you have it on hand.
Thank you!
I wear masks in the airplane and in airports still, and in places like Utah or Texas, people get extremely passive aggressive towards me when I do. I have had flight attendants pretend not to hear me and get angry that I have my mask up, random elderly strangers tisk at me when they pass by, just so much general hassle and passive seething for something that has nothing to do with them. Itās terrifying how much people seem to hate me just for not wanting to get sick.
I lived in conservative California and we know my spouseās veteran identifiers were the only reason we didnāt get hassled. Then we went back in a rental car and we were harassed by a small dick truck.
Thank god we live in the Bay Area now, masking is still common and I see it all the time.
I donāt understand what the fucking big deal is.
Oh right, your freedumbs
I live in the Bay Area. I rarely see masks.
Dang, that sucks.
As someone with cystic fibrosis who has to fly to Texas in a few weeksā¦great.
I might just be unlucky tbh. I hope youāre experience traveling to Texas goes well!
Many thanks. Fortunately, Iāll only be there for a day. Then straight back home to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Where lots of us still wear masks.
Yes Iāve heard people in conservative states will hassle you. I actually got yelled at for it on a bus last week by a guy in a Fuck Trudeau shirt, who I ignored. But the US conservatives are really scary people.
Ha! How weird for him to be so angry at Trudeau he bought a shirt š
They have giant flags they fly on their trucks too.
I would assume they are giant red flags
Blue and red.
In defense of flight attendants, I had a super rough go of understanding anyone during Covid. I tend to read lips to an extent which I never really noticed until everyone was wearing a mask. Sometimes I have a bit of an auditory processing delay, and I was supplementing it by reading lips.
Yea that makes sense. In this case most of the flight attendants had no trouble hearing me, except for one guy who really makes a big show of it. Heās often on the route between the cities I fly too so it wasnāt even a one time thing. Ive seen him a few times and he always does this specifically.
When it became known that covid was neuro invasive, I got even more mad at the short sighted responses of āherd immunityā and āsaving the economyā.
I bet that we see a huge spike in mental degenerative diseases with our generation.
As someone who works in that field, itās already noticeable.
Especially older people and those who we might charitably call āvaccine hesitantā. Itās almost like all thatās stupidity has negative effect on our society as a whole.
Iāve had every recommended booster, got it from my dentist in July 2023 and spent a solid week in bed with what rivaled the worst flu Iād ever had. Actual flu, not āitās just the flu, broā bullshit.
This was followed by a month of a wet racking cough and very congested lungs. I have no idea how much the vaccines and boosters reduced the severity of lessened any long covid, but I got my booster last year (months later) and will be doing so again very soon this year.
Why the hell would anyone want this virus?
Amazingly my coworker who has escaped it says she wants it to get it over with. I sort of understand the waiting for the other shoe to drop feeling, but Iād rather never have had it. I got it on a trip on the way back from Mexico when I was wearing an N95 the whole time.
Thereās nothing to āget over with.ā She can continue to get it after having it before, and every time makes the potential risks higher. Iāve managed to avoid it so far (as far as I know,) but I know my luck will run out eventually. Just hoping to get it as few times as possible.
Due to my OCD Iām almost a hikikomori and I got the virus. I donāt know how. I work from home and I donāt go to parties or things like that.
Itās SUPER transmissible. I have no clue why my wife and I havenāt gotten it because she in particular has had several times where she was in close proximity with infected individuals at work. Maybe we have and were asymptomatic, or maybe weāve just been luckyā¦so far.
Some people just seem to have good immunity. Count yourself lucky.
I do, especially since Iām definitely not one of those people who never gets sick.
It lingers in the air like smoke. You could have just happened upon it.
My granddaughter is in the same camp. Fully vaccinated for everything else youād expect, but completely bought into the repackaged HPV vaccine hysteria that got grafted onto the Covid vaccines. So sheās had it 5 times, including one that she describes as āthat time I almost diedā.
Also, sheās a teacher. At a religious school that obviously doesnāt require that particular vaccine.
What the ever loving fuck is wrong with people.
Well thankfully my coworker is as vaccinated as I am (she asks me every six months if she should get the new version and I say yes), and sheās not foolish about it at all. I guess it just feels like the inevitable if you havenāt had it 4-1/2 years into this.
I cannot imagine the brain damage your granddaughter must have from five bouts of COVID. Wow. Disinformation is a terrible thing.
Sheās not stupid, but prone to magical thinking. Which in our current environment of mass disinfo is just as damaging as being genuinely stupid sadly.
Almost all illnesses are worth avoiding. Take for example, malaria. Dengue has 4-variants which can kill if youāve already got any one of others the first time. COVID still hasnt been fully researched yet.
Absolutely.
Back in the early 2000s there were ācrunchyā moms on Livejournal who were mailing each other āpox boxesā, which was a juice box a kid with chicken pox had licked I guess? It was absolutely insane and did not work.
In particular virulent infections. See Epstein-Barr for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EpsteināBarr_virus
Having had it a few times, I do everything I can to avoid it.
I still mask everywhere and will have my ninth vaccine next month. Iāve been lucky to only have one mild case that was basically a stuffy nose. I feel very fortunate, and I take it really seriously.
The only 2 things Iāve had that were worse than the last time I had COVID:
- Pneumonia when I was 15, so sick I had to be carried to the washroom.
- Whooping cough earlier this year, coughing so much I couldnāt sleep, couldnāt walk more than 3 or 4 meters in a go
Ugh whooping cough is awful. Iāve never had it. I wonder if I should get a booster.
If you have easy access to a boosterā¦ fuckin do it!
I was sick as a dog for 3 weeks, started being symptomatic late Feb, was well enough to work again by mid Marchā¦had a persistent cough until early June, and due to health monitoring at work my lung capacity and strength has been verified as having gone down about 5%. Itās almost October and I still have a bit of a cough, not all the time like right after the worst of it, but if itās cold, or humid, or Iāve been lying down for a few hours(say around 2am)ā¦Anyway, definitely get a booster if you can.
Iāll ask my GP. I do not fool around with getting vaccines as needed, thatās for sure. I just donāt know what the policy is.
Would I be a bad person if I fibbed to public health to get an Mpox vaccine by telling them I have multiple sex partners? I donāt but I would like one because itās spread by touch.
Would I be a bad person if I fibbed to public health
Idk fam, thatās a call you need to take for yourself.
Well I canāt say Iām not tempted.
I had the real influenza which was a bit worse, but I wasnāt vaccinated 3 times against that. Covid gave me over 6 months of loss of smell, that was terrible.
Nine?? Hectic
I donāt fool around with vaccines. Iām serious about them.
This is why weāre wearing masks right now at an airport terminal.
I got it on a plane trip, I think thatās the most dangerous place is a plane.
Fuck me, Iāve flown twice in my life but planned to in November. Guess I can drive ten hours
The poor air flow in the plane is what makes me think that.
As a minor living in an anti-vaccine family, having caught COVID thrice, oh no.
Man Iām so sorry.
Iāve literally just had it and it sucked. Would not recommend.
And yet the government pretends itās all fine.
GovernmentS unfortunately
Why would you want to get sick, wanting to avoid it should be a no-brainer.
Some people think it gives them natural immunity. But natural immunity against COVID isnāt enough and it fades.
idk, Iām personally not worried about it and never really have been. Still isolated a few times and always wore a mask, but only for other people.
Vaccines are out, itās as under control as itās realistically gonna be, not worth worrying about for me personally.
Yeah, itās part of life now. Like cancer, if it happens, it happens. If Iām sick, I try to isolate and recover.
You could however keep worrying for the rest of your life and feel miserable, spend time for all sorts of preparations, become germophobic, restrict your life decisions and become bitter.
Some people prefer the later. Quite a lot actually.
Iām pretty sure that if you knew you would get cancer from someone else who has it at a very high probability of transmission you would avoid it at all times.
This is a very poor comparison. At best it dimishes how bad cancer is and at worst youāre also giving terrible advice to people who care about not having their life destroyed by covid.
I donāt deminish how bad cancer is, never said that. I also donāt give terrible advice, because life is to live and not to worry. Stop with your twisting and go back into hiding from covid. Thatās my advice to you.
I bet everyone cares to not get their life destroyed, duh. But while you fear and hide, the world is moving on without you. You chose the second option Good luck.
It was wrong to comment here, of course a covid related community will be full of people who wear masks under a shower.
Ah, yes, because if you do a modicum of prevention, like wearing a mask, youāre obviously missing life and thereās definitely no way to keep up with the world unless you just completely give up on safety. No in-between, snort covid or become a social shut-in.
/s
Thereās a very large gap between āDonāt bother trying to avoid itā and ālive in perpetual terror of getting it.ā Itās not a binary thing.
Good thing I didnāt say ādonāt bother at allā. I never said donāt get vaccination or donāt wear a mask if youāre in public transport. I even said stay at home when feeling sick to not infect others. I personally donāt use public transport much anymore and probably wonāt carry a mask for the rare occasions, but thatās a personal thing. However the automatic bite reflexes, of assuming I propagate a black and white thinking, makes me believe youāre American. Itās often in online discussions, especially with Americans, that they only see pro or against. Itās exhausting.
Also you brushed of the other things I said too. Maybe I shouldāve added a āthirdā option and itās people who donāt bother with covid at all, but I left it out for discussion sake. All I read all day on social media is the still existing constant fear of covid, and yeah, I rightfully so laugh about this. Itās like fearing cancer. You take reasonable preparations but you gain nothing by changing your way of living by an invisible virus you could catch any day. How is this so hard to understand?
I am indeed American. However, the reason I assumed you propagate black and white thinking is you constantly refer to the extreme:
You could however keep worrying for the rest of your life and feel miserable, spend time for all sorts of preparations, become germophobic, restrict your life decisions and become bitter.
But while you fear and hide, the world is moving on without you.
of course a covid related community will be full of people who wear masks under a shower.
You act like anyone who recommends taking precautions is a crazy germaphobe. If you want to sound reasonable, use reasonable language.
