Favorite bands: Demon Hunter, Fit For A King, Love & Death, Red, Avenged Sevenfold, Gojira, Metallica, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden
@VanHalbgott I would not have survived high school if I didn’t have daily slipknot, Marilyn Manson, RATM, whatever could express my inner anger. I’m still a metalhead but I diversified my tastes
Rock on, user.
I used to, especially in adolescence. My favorite album was …And Justice for All. The solos are amazing.
Five Finger Death Punch: Wrong Side of Heaven video hits hard if that’s something of interest to you.
Avenged Sevenfold: MIA same topic as FFDP.
Soundgarden: Pretty Noose
PanterA: I’m Broken and their Planet Caravan cover.
T-Pain: War Pigs cover
Fear Factory: Powershifter
MegadetH: Peace Sells
Alice in Chains has always been my favorite band. Nutshell (Unplugged), Rotten Apple, Would?, Down in a Hole (Unplugged), We Die Young, and I Stay Away are all fantastic songs. I’m gonna rock out when I run my errands in a bit now. Thanks for the reminder!
I have my own favorite metal bands too:
Demon Hunter, Red, Fit For A King, Jerry Cantrell and Alice in Chains themselves, Those Who Fear, Soundgarden, and recently Gojira because of their Olympics song.
Nice! We have Alice in Chains and Soundgarden in common. Btw, I love the name Soundgarden for a band. I just heard the Olympics one for the first time. I like the mix of metal and opera.
Yeah, it’s actually a song about French history and the royal queen Marion Antoinette with her disembodied head…which really is history if you know the context or if you look it up too.
French history was known for guillotines and overthrowing the royal family of France.
What does that have to do with metal? That’s just what the band Gojira was wanting to play.
They are a French band, after all.
French people really are so rebellious! Thanks for explaining it to me :)
Had a Therion phase. Also Ultra Vomit but it doesn’t have the same appeal now that they have become bigger.
I love metal myself. I listen to everything from Black Sabbath to Cannibal Corpse. I like Nungara, Crypta, Mastodon, Behemoth, Lamb of God, Ghost. I don’t know, it’s a really long list.
Have you heard T-Pain’s War Pigs cover? I love it.
Cool funky version.
I’ll just leave this over here.
That’s clean af!
I have not. I’ll go check that out. Thanks.
I haven’t heard some of those bands, I’m going to go check them out.
I listen to Fit For A King, Demon Hunter, For Today, Those Who Fear, and Red. They’re all religious metal bands but they’re all killer.
I prefer folk punk and adjacent genres, but I listen to some metal, like Otep and Mike Nair-Collins
give me your folk punk recommendations please.
It just occurred to me that, while folk punk seems like the perfect intersection of the music I listen to, I only actually listen to one folk punk band, AJJ. I mostly listen to indie/alt and emo/punk
My favorite metal bands changed their sound like a decade ago :/ Sonata Arctica and Nightwish
Oh Alice in Chains is my favorite band of all time. Have their logo tatted on my shoulder. I saw Megadeth on tour recently, having not been a listener. They blew me away. I was headbanging for the entire 2 hours they played 😂
Alice in Chains is my favorite band too! I love their vocal harmonization and use of dissonance. It’s unique and hits the feelings perfectly.
Also, I got to meet MegaDeth during their Trust Tour in 99/00.
Yep, nobody sounds like AiC.
That’s awesome that you got to meet Megadeth. Were your palms getting wet?
Wet? I was sweating bulleeeeeeets!
The entire venue sang every word to that song, it was magical
🤘hell yeah🤘 I bet that was awesome. Hundreds of people all feeling the same and amping each other up in synergy.
Megadeth was really nice in person. There was a line to meet the band, but Dave Mustaine made sure I had the opportunity to ask questions and have a conversation with him. I didn’t expect that, was a bit nervous, and didn’t want to bother him, so I said I I had nothing to ask and thanked him. The entire band signed my copy of Trust too!
I saw (not met) Alice in Chains, but it was after the two losses, so that’s still in the air at the concert :/
I also met Dino from Fear Factory and he passed a joint with me and my friend outside his tour bus.
And I met Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley from KISS at an event they held for veterans, and Paul signed my guitar. I have it on a stand in my music room.
Have you met any bands?
Not yet man, it gets more and more expensive to have those opportunities nowadays. I’m hoping to save up for that someday. For now, I’m content just seeing my favorite bands play lol.
\m/
Metallica has been my absolute favorite metal band since I first heard them back in the eighties.
However, my metal preferences have kept expanding over the years.
Maiden is obvious. So is Sabbath.
But, I’m also super into Amon Amarth, Kataklysm, Ensiferum, Dimmu Borgir, Shepherd’s Reign (if you don’t know them, you have to immediately give them a listen, even if you end up not liking them), GWAR, Anthrax, and Megadeth.
That’s not an exhaustive list of bands I listen to frequently, just the ones that as soon as an album drops, I get it. Well, Megadeth has dropped off in that regard, but I listen to anew album as soon as I can, and then decide if I want to buy it or not.
I could fill up a page with bands that I love, and another with bands I just like.
Oh! And a relatively new band that’s only recently released their first album! Gotta hype these guys, Oklahoma Blood. Really stripped down, aggressive sound. They’re a trio and sound like a bigger band.
Metal isn’t my only music, but it ends up being my favorite genre overall. It’s just so alive when done well, in a way that I don’t really find with most genres. Folk and folk related stuff is alive in the same way, particularly bluegrass and zydeco, and you’ll find plenty of individual “indie” stuff that has that kind of vital essence. That’s subjective, obviously, but it’s the way I’ve come to think about what it is that draws me to some forms of music over others.
been getting into “Dragged Into Sunlight” and “Wreck and Reference” lately.
I like immortal bird and the curse within
I used to listen to some metal (Motorhead, Slayer, Metallica) when I was younger but my tastes have mellowed out. When DRI played here on their 40th anniversary tour here a couple of years ago, I was blown away by the opening act touring with them. Intent is a boring name IMO that doesn’t do them justice. They’re on Bandcamp. Any Slayer fan should check them out
