A billionaire thinking he can threaten an entire city by cutting access to food distribution points is an excellent reason why a city should own its food distribution points
Make the capitalist markets compete with state controlled groceries. Hell yeah NYC.
Porky: “You see, union activity is bad because it disrupts the economy! Going on strike just makes everything worse!”
Also porky: “If you win, I’m going to close my grocery stores and destroy multiple jobs in protest! This is totally different from a strike, trust me!”
They’re running scared already. Good!
Threatening us with a good time I see
Wow he doesn’t even have to look for locations to open stores now! Thanks for the kind donation, anonymous billionaire!
The grocery stores in question are known as rock-bottom in both ways – they’re expensive as shit and the quality sucks. My NYC apartment sent an email blast out to everyone telling us how the lint trap in the dryer works and how you can’t just let the shit build up there forever. Gristedes is the grocery chain of choice for the audience that needed to receive that memo.
This helps contextualize the situation of this billionaire with little competition complaining about his profitable situation being threatened.
Good news! We can also draw an economic plan to re-open some of those stores as cooperatives in service of the NYC community. Policies to deal with rent, taxes and logistics in order of make community and worker owned business in the region more sustainable.
I’ll volunteer to help you close them for free. I’ll help you move out of the city. Then I’ll shop there when Zohran reopens them without you.
you’ve been warned!
