Flat tires. Constant flat tires. The final straw was getting one 12 km out from destination and having to walk home. Also, I prefer riding on footpaths because I’m paranoid about being swiped by a car, but people don’t like that either.
Can I ask when your last experience here was? Bicycle tyres genuinely improved noticably over like the past 20 years, a modern Schwalbe Marathon is nigh unkillable unless you’re unlucky enough to pick up a nail or something

Oh man if that was your big issue I cannot recommend enough you try some modern tyres with puncture protection. I rememebr a time when the faint glint of glass shards would make you cringe on the fact that maybe you’d have to change your inner tubes but modern tyres are just genuinely so much better
I have got to pick up some new tires. the no name summer tires that came with my bike pick up glass fairly readily (despite having some sort of protective weave and supposedly being puncture resistant). never been stranded though, I just carry a patch kit
