Do not trust ANYTHING from Hi-Rez / Prophecy Games studios.

Their CEO Erez is poison. Global Agenda, Tribes Ascend, Tribes 3, Starsiege, Palidins and on. SMITE was their baby, but they got the Hi-Rez shitfuckery in the end too.

    Look at the bones!

They put up laughable paid alphas for Tribes 3 and Starsiege only to abandon them for SMITE 2 recently.

They create some cool concepts but Erez is a freeze-gamer seems to sabatoge his own games for EEEEEEEEEEE-spurtz constantly. Chopping the games ever to bits to cater to the very minor EEEEEEEEEEE-spurtz specific little niche and gripes.

Some casual ruins a pro streamer’s streak? Obviously that’s OP and needs to be nerfed to the ground! Over and over. Until the game is reduced to a very narrow niche upon a niche which the pro bois streamers have honed in and bitched enough to nerf any counter that the casuals end up draining out.

I played the first Smite for a while, i’m assuming smite 2 is the same-ish. best way i can describe from a heroes of the storm POV is that there’s less map gimmicks, every auto attack has to be aimed in third person, and the hero mechanic designs are much less unique. art style is okay, skins sometimes ruin that art style hard. some of the character designs are pretty cool like khepri and jormungandr, and if you like mythology there’s tons of the greatest hits like wukong and zeus and shit

honestly i’d look into getting a Deadlock invite, I haven’t tried it out but it looks neat and seems like it scratches around the same itch as smite. I also dunno how to get an invite since I don’t have one myself, but I think the subreddit should have invite sharing threads or something like that

This company completely obliterated the Tribes franchise but refuses to give it to anyone else. Original smite was ok but kinda dull and the gall to charge for smite 2 in a market where these games are generally f2p is wild.

I’d say a strong no given the companies track record for ruining everything they touch. You’d be better off trying deadlock instead if you are wanting some third person moba action

I enjoyed playing the casual modes on Smite 1. I hate the default 4 lane moba setup. Joust (1lane) and Clash (2lane) were very enjoyable for me.

I have not yet played Smite 2 and have no idea how it differs mechanically to Smite 1. If anyone can offer any insight into what gimmick the game has that actually makes it different I’d be grateful.

So the old map was slightly unbalanced with the giant titan dude on the the inside of a curved shape and with the red buff on the outside of the curve. In addition it was quite a bit smaller. There only being one red buff and one major objective zone made fighting happen all the time rather than the slower paced larger new map.

Admittedly it’s been about 6 or 7 years since I played it so I might be misremembering but I think that’s sort of why I preferred the og

I have multiple years in a variety of MOBAs but Smite never clicked for me, from what I hear it’s basically the same. I guess they had a change in leadership 5 years ago so maybe things are different but all Hi-Rez has ever done is chase the dragon of whatever genre is popular at the moment.
