Modern sketch show by David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

I’m 3 episodes in, and it’s okay. I wouldn’t say it’s good yet, but maybe it gets better…

I kinda miss British sketch comedy. Are there any other modern sketch shows being made?

It’s pretty uneven but then that’s true of all sketch shows, imo. There are some really funny bits in there.

I lean toward more the good side of ok. I personally think there’s more hits than misses, but I know it’s all subjective. It was the Writer’s Group section which really put it over the line for me.

I probably only think Sweary Aussie Drama is lazy because I’ve been watch episodes back to back. But I think they think it’s one of those sketches where a bit gets so overplayed (like Numberwang) that it goes around to being funny again.

Nice to see Olivia Coleman make a cameo, even though the joke felt like an inside joke that doesn’t come across very well.

Nice to see Behind the Scenes sections making a return. Although my favourite use of them was in “Situation”.

I finished last night. Quite funny but short and uneven which is kinda of typical for sketch show. I like that they have expanded to younger artists and make fun at the generational bullshit.

The most recent sketch show I watched that was genuinely funny was Ellie and Natasia on BBC

There are some genuinely good bits. I like that it’s not just the same sketches every week (some sketch shows play a bit too heavily on the same characters/same jokes/catchphrase every episode). I’m only two episodes in though.

btw, you might want to crosspost this to !britishcomedy@feddit.uk

I thought it was good but not great. Worth watching if you like sketch shows and/or Mitchell and Webb, but I don’t think this is a show that’ll be remembered for years to come. I wouldn’t say it gets better as it goes on, unfortunately, if anything it runs out of steam a bit. Still I’m not complaining, I’m glad they made it because there are too few shows like this these days and it got some laughs from me.

I didn’t know about it until your post. So I watched some clips. It was, as you say, okay. Feels like they’ve taken some aspects of the first run, like Mitchell’s hysterical reactions, and just gone with that.

I’ll hold off on having an opinion until I’ve seen some more, Mitchell and Webb is really hit or miss with me. The first sketch show series and their panel show appearances together are legendary. Peepshow sucked something awful.

Also 3 episodes in, where I relegated it to “maybe I’ll finish this once I’ve watched everything else I want to watch first”.

The writers room bits have been the best, but honestly it’s passed the time amicably but been forgettable. The Aussie Drama is notable for having such a high quotient of fucks AND cunts, which is very rare. Possibly that was an in joke - IIRC some channels give a new series a maximum number of each across the series - so they were flaunting the fact they had no limit.

No memorable jokes stand out to me otherwise, apart from the bit about 80’s green edged crisps.

Even the clips that were released that are usually the highlight to draw people in weren’t very funny. Kind of just felt sad

The wife and I tried watching yesterday. We only lasted three sketches, didn’t think it was very funny at all which was a huge shame as we loved their original sketch show. Bring back Sir Digby Chicken Cesar! 😁
