I like it how the designers put in lore retroactively. The shroud is from 1345 or there about, but for the merch (reliquary) sellers it was an important value generator.
If you think about it, trade in relics is almost akin to nft peddling.
So this painting is advertisement
The painter was Italian, living in the time where the shroud was acquired by the house of Savoie, who asserted it was the real shroud (after the bishop of Troyes had previously decided that it wasn’t the real thing)
I couldn’t find out who ordered the picture, but I’m sure the artist has seen it and the royals in Savoie would benefit by it’s legitimacy.
Even the Roman guard is looking at them like, “That’s fucked up.”
